Molly's bandages are off, and the pads look healed. She seems in good spirits and loved having the cone of ______ removed yesterday. I cut off the bandages this morning, and she has been licking her legs and paws thoroughly ever since. I think she is licking off the glue from the tape. All is good as of now.
Now a word to Molly. DON'T EVER DO THIS AGAIN! Stay safe in the house if you are scared. You are less safe outside the house running around, and especially leaping out of windows that are on the second floor. You were lucky this time that you weren't more injured and that no cars hit you. Stay safe little one. We all love you.

Molly survives a leap from above.
As I mentioned, Molly saved our lives, but suffered from nerves for along time afterwards. Well, it seemed she had forgotten, but two night ago it was warm, and windy! All night the wind blew through the windows and Molly was nervous. Therefore, yesterday morning I mentioned to my hubby that he should close all the windows when he left. I was off extra early to observe student teachers, and would not be home until later than usual. Well, I came home, and GUESS WHAT! As I got out of the car at around 5:30, the kids on the street asked me if I had found Molly yet!
Oh did my heart sink. How did Molly escape? How long ago? Was it the wind? Which window? Inside I found no trace of husband or Molly. Kit was sleeping contently in a chair though. I called Robert on his cell, and he confirmed my fears. Molly had jumped out of the one window he forgot to close -- the second story bathroom window. He had been looking for her for over two hours. The kids saw her as they came home on the school bus.
Well, I went looking up and down near our house. Finally, I called my mother to warn her that Molly might come to their house looking for me. I went to Molly's best friend's house, and let them know. I think everyone in the neighborhood was looking for her. I also heard honking, long, loud honks on the main road near our house. I thought -- that could be for a dog! I went home to call Robert to tell him I was going to go out and look. My mother came driving up, saying no luck. Then Robert came home, and I was reading to pull out to look. He came running out to say someone had just called. She was hiding in their bushes, very scared, at street near by.
I went over there, and called her. The man and his son told me she had heard me and was coming. Oh, was I overjoyed. She was limping though, and I didn't know what might be wrong with her. I mean she leapt from the 2nd floor. However, she was also running around and eluding everyone for at least 2 hours, maybe 3.
Long story coming to an end -- we took Molly to the emergency vet. She had abrasions on her front paw pads, but nothing more serious. God must have been protecting her. I guess he has something in mind for her. Two hours later, we came home with a dog swathed in bandages and pink coverings on her front paws, and an e-collar to keep her from pulling them off. They way we can take it off tomorrow.
Anyway, today she is much better, full of energy, and I think she would love to go to agility tomorrow, but I am making her stay home. This summer our house will be stifling hot when we are not at home, but better that than losing our precious Molly and having to keep replacing screens. I mean, now she knows she can get out from any open window.
How Molly saved our lives
Last September Molly saved our lives by detecting a gas leak that had been going on for a week. Her behavior had radically changed as she suddenly was jumping out of screen windows. After she went to her agility class, where she was shaken and nervous as well, our trainer Jeannine Jay asked if something had changed at home that would trigger this. She had not been prone to separation anxiety and that had been the vet's diagnosis based on the fact that all her break-outs occurred when we were not home.
After the vet visit, we sealed the house up tight and that really made things worse. Of course, we did not KNOW that the gas leaked smelled bad to her and was choking her in many ways. Kit-kat seemed unaware of anything. Molly was nervous wreck and seemed especially nervous when the wind would blow through the open screened windows.
Well, anyway, I went home that night and noticed just how fearful Molly was, and how she kept staring at the ceiling above the fireplace and sniffing around there. It looked like she was watching ghosts. Well, I went down to the basement and found that there was a distinct gas odor coming from under the gas fireplace. The gas company shut our gas supply off completely until we could get a new valve.
Let me tell you! Molly saved our lives.
She continued to be fearful for over a month afterwards, but thanks to Reiki from Miranda Workman, special dog music, rescue remedy and windows no longer being opened in the colder fall, Molly got more her old self again.
I've seen nothing but positive progress until YESTERDAY!!!! That's in the next installment of Molly and Kit.
